Exploring the Rock Cities

Mid March my roommates and I went to Cappadocia with the schools international students group. This was an intersting trip to say the least... It was jam packed with activities and there really wasn't a moment where we were not moving.

Our trip started at 10pm on Friday night, we loaded a bus and drove to Cappadocia. The drive from Istanbul was about 11hrs. I mean i have done a 32hr trip before but this was unbelievably uncomfortable i did not sleep at all. A plus to not sleeping is being able to watch the sun rise, which I did, and it was beautiful. When we arrived to Cappidocia we ate breakfast and then were out and about again. We had this little man as a tour guide who sang covers of Michel Jackson in the front of the bus for us. He first visited a underground city, that around 25,000 people lived in at one time. It was a really cool experience but towards the end I was getting cloister-phobic. Next we visited a panoramic viewing site of the "fairy caves" it was needless to say amazing we ran out on to some of the cliff like structures and it was just exhilarating.
Other things we did in Cappadocia were go to a Turkish night that included traditional turkish dance and wedding rituals which was really cool. We went wine tasting, and tasted probably the grossest wine I have ever tasted in my life. One thing that I really wanted to do ever sine I decided to travel to Turkey was ride in a hot air balloon over Cappadocia, unfortunately it was extremely out of my budget, we were told that it was going to cost $500 US, which would completely take out future travel options.
On the trip back we had a little bit of culture shock I would say. There is a huge difference between Istanbul and the rest of Turkey, when we stopped for dinner we realized that is wasn't just something people said it was true. We stupidly walked strait into the restaurant and started to look at the options to eat... we were quickly rushed to the other side of the restaurant that was blocked off because that was where the women and children sat... It was needless to say a little weird but we also felt bad and stupid for barging into the restaurant not acknowledging where we were.

We were so happy at the end to walk into the light!
